Our 4th quarter seminar was held at Master Mike Scott's dojo, 188 Siloam Rd., Freehold on December 3rd. My thanks to Mike for hosting Shihan John Hughes and Master Doug King as the presenters. Small turnout but much information was passed on to our Isshinryu family!
Great seminar hosted by Master Doug King! Master's Pinghero & Nash put on quite a show for the attendees. Look for our next seminar in December at Sensei Mike Scott's dojo. Details to follow.
Congratulations to Shihan Ricky Norris for his induction into the Tennessee IHOF. Hanshi Ralph passero and Don Nash attended the event held on the last weekend in July. Great job Ricky!
July 9th was a milestone for AI Inc as we produced our first UTUBE and dojo web site commercial under tthe direction of Master Tom Flagg. Tom is an actor on Broadway and was able to get the use of the JERRY ORBACH THEATRE so that we could put a 60 second video together utilizing the talents of some of our students from various dojos. The final product will appear within the next few weeks on this site. Thanks to all who appeared in this video as well as the support folks who helped put it together!
Our 4th quarter meeting was brief so that we could enjoy one another's company over a beer and a sandwich prior to the holidays. Of the items discussed was the schedule for mini seminars at various dojos for 2011. Marvin Carmona will host the first quarter. Mr. Temple will hold the 2nd and the topic will be unique. The seminar will be dedicated totally to our ladies of Isshinryu (teens and up). Doug King will take the 3rd quarter and Mike Scott will host the 4th quarter. Dates to be determined and presenters will be announced shortly.
Master John Hughes held a most successful seminar this Saturday, Nov. 13th in Hackettstown. Cost for the event was just $20 and members went home with a ton of info. Master Don Nash put on an excellent seminar of techniques within seisan kata and seiuchin kata. Master Dennis Hoare covered Traditional Chinese Atami Waza. Attendees had the opportunity to practice their new techniques on one another with minimal bruises! All attendees will receive a certificate of participation from Grand Master Temple on Dec.1st at the next meeting. Again, great job by Mr. Hughes and Mr. Nash and Mr. Hoare!
Our 3rd quarter meeting produced two important decisions today. First, we will not be involved in any ranking within dojo parameters. Our role in leading Isshinryu is not to interefer in how you, the dojo head determine how to rank in your own dojo! Secondly, we have discontinued the annual membership donation fee of $10. We are introducing life time membership donation of only $35. Remember, any monies you donate to American Isshinryu Inc. are fully tax deductable under the 501 C 3 status that has been designated to our organization. We are now over the 400 member mark and moving ahead to our goal of 500 by year's end. All members signing up for lifetime membership will receive a lifetime membership certificate, wallet membership card and 2 sleeve patches. Anyone needing more patches can order them through your sensei for only $1.50 each. I would ask that each dojo sensei coordinate that ordering of patches through me on a monthly basis to cut back on mailing expenses. The annual dojo donation of $100 is still in effect and each dojo head instructor will receive lifetime membership with that $100 donation. You might ask, what does the $100 donation get that sensei? He or she will have the ongoing opportunity to have any number of our senior Masters come out to your dojo for private clinics/seminars as well as allow you the opportunity to hold seminars in your area wherein you are able to generate revenue for your dojo. That has always been our main goal, to help you keep those doors open! Hanshi Temple
Ralph Passero-9th Dan hosted an outstanding event on September 25th in Bayonne. He has thrown a number of these tournaments over the years but this one was his best by far. The competition was hot, the kata was hot, the fighting was even hotter and the building was even hotter! LOL Congratulations to all the winners for a strong showing of your dojos training and we look forward to seeing everyone again at the next AMERICAN ISSHINRYU INC. backed tournament!
The first of a series of mini seminars to be held at various dojos around the state was held on July 31st at Sensei Paul Kilduff's location in Oxford, NJ. Hanshi Temple and Brian Fitzgerald put on 2 hours of kumite drills and matches for the attendees. All of the students and Black Belts had an opportunity to spar with Hanshi Temple and show their skills. These mini events are provided by the hosting dojos to not only bring in new members for AMERICAN ISSHINRYU but create revenue for the hosting dojo as well. What better way to meet and be involved with the senior dans of Isshinryu! The next mini seminar will be hosted by Shihan John Hughes on November 13, look for details soon. Hanshi Temple will sponsor an event in April at his location.
Mr. Temple visited Master John Pinghero's student, Tom Kately's dojo in Long Valley and gave a clinic on fighting in August and everyone in attendance had the opportunity to spar with Grand Master Temple. We can see why Quest Karate has a lot of strong fighters with great talent, congrads Tom
Our last event for the kids of Isshinryu at Hanshi Temple's was as promised. It was free and we were done in one hour. Those who qualified for the Grand Champ trophies stayed on and represented their dojos. Great job by all.
Our "Day With The Masters" on May 16th and was a success by all who attended! There were 4 separate clinics and then a weapons competition. The first clinic was given by Master Ralph Passero on kumite. He took everyone through a number of drills to close distance and finish off their opponent. The 2nd clinic was given by Master Don Nash on tournament kata taking everyone through drills to help their tournament participation. A secondary clinic was given by Hanshi Temple and Master Hoare on joint locking and takedowns for the overflow participants. Our third event was given by Master John Hughes and Master Scott Klinger on bo technique. We split the group up and half went outside with Mr. Klinger and worked out on the lawn going through Master Klinger's drills while the main body stayed inside and worked the drills with Master Hughes. The fourth event was by Master Fitzgerald on kata bunkai. We spun off two additional groups from the main body and one group went with Master Nash and Master Hughes on knife technique. Hanshi Temple and Master Klinger took the other group to work on kumite drills on closing distance. The kata competition was excellent and we gave away 12 grand champ trophies!
Our next DAY WITH THE MASTERS will be held in November. A notice will be sent out to all dojos in October.
